Orthodox Churches in Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix's Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral was founded in 1923 by ten Greek businessmen. It lost its church in 1937, reacquired it in 1941, and bought a Maryland Avenue site in 1972, where services in a new church began in 1976. St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church was incorporated on June 23, 1949, and its church at 45th Street and Indian School was first dedicated on October 8, 1950. After a Christmas morning fire in 1980 destroyed that church, a new one on Gold Dust Avenue was consecrated in 1987.

Saints Peter & Paul, now in the Orthodox Church in America, was founded in 1951, and St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church was established in 1958 by Serbian families. Saint Anthony the Great Orthodox Monastery, of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, was founded in 1983 in central Phoenix. A Greek Orthodox Archdiocese profile of Holy Trinity noted Pan-Orthodox events shared with Antiochian, Serbian, Russian and other churches, and described its members as including converts through marriage.
