Orthodox Churches in Sacramento, California

Around 1910, Russian and other Slavic immigrants began moving to an area three miles west of Sacramento. In 1925, the immigrant community in that area founded a parish whose liturgical services were conducted in Church Slavonic. In August 1976, fourteen of its parishioners who wanted services in English established Elevation of the Holy Cross, an Orthodox Church in America parish. Holy Cross purchased its present site in 1992 and completed its chapel in time for Pascha in 2003.

Among the city's other parishes, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, founded in 1920, stands in East Sacramento. Holy Ascension Russian Orthodox Church belongs to the Western American Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Mission, part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, was formally established in February 2017 by a small group of Ukrainian immigrants who had settled in the Sacramento area. It met first in parishioners' homes, and Archbishop Daniel consecrated its church in May 2018.
