Orthodox Churches in Bridgeport, Connecticut

Holy Ghost Orthodox Church dates to 1894, when immigrants who had been Greek Catholic sought admission to the Orthodox Church. Fr. Alexis Toth, now St. Alexis of Wilkes-Barre, served its first liturgy. Many early Romanian, Greek, Serbian and Albanian immigrants worshiped at Holy Ghost until they could build their own churches. Carpatho-Russian immigrants on the city's east side began building the church of St. John the Baptist on Arctic Street in 1907; after losing its property in court, the Orthodox congregation dedicated a new church on Mill Hill Avenue in 1946.

Greek immigrants organized Holy Trinity in 1913; its early church also served Orthodox Syrians, Albanians and Romanians, and its Park Avenue church opened in 1966. St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church traces its origins to Syrian immigrants from Soueidieh, near Antioch, who settled after World War I; its church was dedicated in 1957. St. Mary's Ukrainian Church marked its 90th anniversary in 2011, and most of its service is celebrated in English.
