Orthodox Churches in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Cathedral, at Fifth Street and Fairmount Avenue, was established in 1897 and is described as the oldest Eastern Orthodox church in Philadelphia. Greek immigrants followed in 1908, buying an Episcopal church and renaming it Evangelismos, the city's first Greek Orthodox church. In 1921 they bought St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Eighth Street, a Greek Revival building of 1822 by John Haviland, and renamed it St. George. St. George was designated the region's cathedral in the 1930s.

St. Stephen Orthodox Cathedral traces its roots to an earlier parish, St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, founded in 1909 in Northern Liberties. In 1968 the parish bought land on Verree Road to expand into the Greater Northeast, and the Orthodox Church in America elevated it to cathedral status in 1974. St. Stephen's describes itself as multi-ethnic, with English as its main language. St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, founded by Ukrainian immigrants, marked its centennial in 2026.
