The Elevation of the Precious Cross

The finding and lifting up of the True Cross by St. Helen in Jerusalem in 326 AD. The icon shows the patriarch of Jerusalem raising the Cross while the faithful venerate it. The feast commemorates both the original finding and the recovery of the Cross from the Persians in 628.
