The Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple

The three-year-old Mary is brought to the Temple by her parents Joachim and Anna. The High Priest Zachariah receives her and leads her into the Holy of Holies, where she will remain until her betrothal. The icon shows the small child ascending the Temple steps with remarkable confidence.
