Ὑπαπαντή τοῦ Κυρίου
Celebrated: February 2
The infant Christ is brought to the Temple by Mary and Joseph, where the aged Simeon receives him and proclaims him 'a light to lighten the Gentiles.' The prophetess Anna also gives thanks. Simeon's arms reach out to receive the Child — the meeting of the Old Testament and the New.
