St. Seraphim of Sarov

One of the most beloved Russian saints, St. Seraphim (1754–1833) is depicted as an elderly monk with white hair and a gentle, radiant expression. He is often shown in a white monastic cassock, sometimes kneeling on a rock in prayer.

St. Seraphim greeted every visitor with 'My joy! Christ is risen!' regardless of the calendar day. His life and teachings on the acquisition of the Holy Spirit profoundly shaped modern Russian spirituality.
