Orthodox Christianity in Idaho

Idaho's first Orthodox parish was Greek. Railroad and livestock work gave Pocatello the state's largest Greek immigrant population: in 1910, 641 Greek immigrants, 35 percent of the state total, lived in Bannock County, most in Pocatello. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church there was consecrated on August 15, 1915, and its Byzantine Revival building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Antiochian communities were founded in the 1990s. St. Ignatius of Antioch in Twin Falls began in 1993 with a few families worshipping in a home; its first Divine Liturgy followed that December. St. John the Baptist in Post Falls was founded in November 1995 when Fr. Gregory Horton moved from Pennsylvania to serve about twenty-five Orthodox families; the parish calls its church the first Orthodox temple built in north and central Idaho. A Holy Transfiguration mission was operating in Boise by 2000; a parish of that name is now in Meridian.

In northern Idaho, a mission planted in Sandpoint by a priest of Holy Myrrhbearers in Naples became the Holy Apostles parish of the Serbian Orthodox Church's Western American Diocese in September 2025. About 100 people attended its first Divine Liturgy in a leased church building on November 30. The St. Herman of Alaska Skete is near Rathdrum, where in December 2018 a property owner was seeking a county permit for a skete and private cemetery for Russian Orthodox monks on 22 acres she planned to donate.
