Orthodox Churches in South Dakota

Orthodox parish life appears to have reached South Dakota decades after neighboring Minnesota and Nebraska. A 2009 survey of each state's first Orthodox parish dates Minnesota's to 1892 and Nebraska's to 1903. For South Dakota it gives a Greek parish in Sioux Falls around 1959. The survey adds that an earlier parish is possible, but that as of the 1936 Census of Religious Bodies the state still had no Orthodox churches.

Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux Falls, a parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Denver, says it was founded more than fifty years ago by Greek Orthodox immigrants. Its congregation now includes descendants of the Greek founders, people from the Russian lands, and parishioners of Eritrean, Ethiopian, Ukrainian, Romanian, and Serbian heritage, among others, along with many converts. Its liturgical language is primarily English. Saint Olga Russian Orthodox Church, also in Sioux Falls, held its first Liturgy on July 1, 2023, with over 40 people in attendance.

The City of Valley Springs lists All Saints Serbian Orthodox Church among the local churches in and around the town, alongside Reformed, Lutheran, and Methodist congregations. The Serbian Orthodox Church's official parish listing places it in the Diocese of New Gracanica and Midwestern America. In Rapid City, St. John's Orthodox Church, also known as St. John the Theologian Orthodox Church, is a parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. Its priest lives in the city and also serves a sister parish in Wyoming.
