Romanian immigrants who arrived in Canton in 1911 established St. George Romanian Orthodox Church in 1912, and St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church dates to 1913. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church followed in 1917, founded mostly by single Greek men from Asia Minor drawn to Canton's expanding industry; its original church stood at 10th Street and Ross Avenue NE, where many parishioners lived near the factories and mills. Syrian and Lebanese Orthodox Christians formed St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in 1918 and dedicated its church on Cherry Avenue NE in 1922.

In 1958 St. Haralambos moved its church building four miles to 25th and Harvard NW. Holy Trinity began worshiping in a new Plain Township church at Easter 1977, and a historical marker for its original site was dedicated in 2022. In 2022 St. George Antiochian reported growth from former Protestants.
